Asian Successful Investors' Traits

Recently, I have read many of the Asian successful stock market investors through finance magazines. Each of them is good and impressive, it's just like the The Market Wizards for Asian. I would like to learn from them, so I found out that they have some common traits and experience, which I would like to share with you here.

Trait #1 - Daring
None of them are play safe by starting from small amount of investment. Play safe won't get you far just like fixed deposit. Most of them invested 100% of the wealth into it. They are daring and taking risk once an opportunity is discovered. Besides, they also daring to invest during great uncertainty. That's why their return is very high compared to others when it is succeeded.

Digital Media Counters

I believe some of you have already notice the potential earnings and prospects of local digital media counters. There are not many digital media counters in Malaysia, just a handful of them, like AMEDIA, CACHA, DIGISTA and MMODE.

Between them, 2 of the long listed counters, DIGISTA and MMODE have went up 3 to 4 times recently, where AMEDIA and CACHA are just listed recently. Have you invest any of them?

Coastal Contracts Bhd

One of my favorite low PER counter, COASTAL has released it's latest quarter result on 24 Nov. I believe this counter has draws many investors attention, due to it's low PER and the capability of making money from the time of economy crisis until today.

Surprisingly for the first time, it's EPS has been dropped from 11.1 cents to 7.59 cents compared to previous year's quarter. The drop of revenue and profit are mainly due to lower number of vessels delivered and lower fleet utilization rate for vessel chartering. Nevertheless, it's gross and net profit margin has increased by 2% and 5% respectively.

Masterskill Continues to be Loser?

MEGB (Masterskill) finally released it's latest quarter result today. Yes, as expected and predicted from all analysts, it is a very disappointed outcome.

MEGB's Q3 2011 net profit has dropped for almost 80% compared to previous Q3 2010, mainly due to poor revenue of 24% and continuously high expenses. High expenses is okay. But MEGB has started 3 consecutive quarter results with lower sales with higher expenses. And this quarter is the worse ever, due to the same reasons given in last quarter report.

Olympia Industries Berhad

I have a quick read through at OLYMPIA latest annual report 2010 this afternoon. Well, I took a look just because I'm it's subsidiary, Jupiter Security Sdn Bhd customer. Jupiter Security Sdn Bhd is one of the brokerage firms in Malaysia and I'm using Jupiter Online as my trading platform.

Review of My Portfolio

The stock market is turned from bear to bull within 3 months time. The bear has brought down KLSE 270 points and last for almost 3 months. The recent bull has comes back for more than a month and bring back KLSE 140 points.

I believe most of the people did not manage to buy at the bottom of 1,310-1350. It's unpredictable. Not only that, many people also make loss from the bear and afraid of 2nd dip. In fact, this is the best time to test your strategy whether it is working. For me, my existing strategy is definitely sucks and need a lot of improvement. I'm surrounded with fear and I did not discipline enough to do my cost dollar averaging.

Buy American. I Am.

THE financial world is a mess, both in the United States and abroad. Its problems, moreover, have been leaking into the general economy, and the leaks are now turning into a gusher. In the near term, unemployment will rise, business activity will falter and headlines will continue to be scary.

So I’ve been buying American stocks. This is my personal account I’m talking about, in which I previously owned nothing but United States government bonds. (This description leaves aside my Berkshire Hathaway holdings, which are all committed to philanthropy.) If prices keep looking attractive, my non-Berkshire net worth will soon be 100 percent in United States equities.

When Will Index Correction End?

It's been 2 months, KLCI index has been dipping for more than 10% as of Thursday closing. What we are looking forward? Will this be a small or big bear?

As I mentioned in my post earlier, the problem is not so complicated as the financial crisis in 2008. Thus, it may not go back to where it starts again. Perhaps 2 to 3 months correction is consider a norm, as no index can goes up forever.

The Management Integrity Lesson

Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Merdeka Day! I hope you have a great holiday for the past few days.

I went to Times bookstore yesterday and I read a local Chinese stock magazine. A reader wrote in and ask about how's HEVEA doing and what is it's prospect. Interestingly, the author regret that he did write a bright future and good prospect for HEVEA early this year, due to the misled from HEVEA's management. The management told The Edge that they are started to export their products to China and they will improve their revenue and profit in the near term.

What Are Stocks (Part 2)?

Debt vs. Equity

Why does a company issue stock? Why would the founders share the profits with thousands of people when they could keep profits to themselves? The reason is that at some point every company needs to raise money. To do this, companies can either borrow it from somebody or raise it by selling part of the company, which is known as issuing stock. A company can borrow by taking a loan from a bank or by issuing bonds. Both methods fit under the umbrella of debt financing.

What Are Stocks? (Part 1)

The Definition of a Stock

Plain and simple, stock is a share in the ownership of a company. Stock represents a claim on the company's assets and earnings. As you acquire more stock, your ownership stake in the company becomes greater. Whether you say shares, equity, or stock, it all means the same thing.

Being an Owner

Is Recent Crisis Differs From 2008?

I'm so sorry. I supposed to write something on Monday or Tuesday evening. But I was rushing for a tender and I did not sleep for 2 days. I have totally no chance to update this blog for the past 10 days. That's make me think of my financial freedom plan.

So have you find out what is wrong with the market for the past 5 to 6 trading days? I found the article below written by Francesco Guerrera from the Internet and would like to share with you.

There are three fundamental differences between the financial crisis of three years ago and today's events.

The Introduction of Stocks

Wouldn't you love to be a business owner without ever having to show up at work? Imagine if you could sit back, watch your company grow, and collect the dividend checks as the money rolls in! This situation might sound like a pipe dream, but it's closer to reality than you might think.

As you've probably guessed, here is talking about owning stocks. This fabulous category of financial instruments is, without a doubt, one of the greatest tools ever invented for building wealth. Stocks are a part, if not the cornerstone, of nearly any investment portfolio. When you start on your road to financial freedom, you need to have a solid understanding of stocks and how they trade on the stock market

What is Left For KLSE (Part 2)?

Right, whoever managed to grab ARMADA IPO has 37% unrealized profit in your hand right now, if you haven't sell it. If you listen to OSK with it's fair value and sell when the market opens, you should be hitting your heart with your hand right now. Anyway, congratulations to those lucky subscribers who managed to hit ARMADA IPO.

As we know KLSE is hitting new high and index approaching 1,600 points, it is getting more challenging to make money from stock market. What is your strategy to continue to make profit from the market?

What is Left For KLSE (Part 1)?

KLCI is going sideway early of this year, but the index is moving slowly towards 1,600 points. Did you manage to earn any money from the local stock market during these 7.5 months period?

To be honest, I did make some. I made some handsome profit from IPO and unrealized profit from all the stocks I bought end of last years.

Let's talk about IPO today, as it is 'used to be' my favorite making money vehicle.

It's IPO War. Play or Quit?

Are you kidding me? 6 IPO within 3 days and 9 IPO within a month available for the public to subscribe in June alone. Don't you feel there is a little bit too much for such a low volume trading country?

Anyway, perhaps this is the best time for IPO, as no one can predict when is the bull trend going to be ended.  But also beware there may be some walls to hit, as everyone also want to grab money from IPO.

I hate MSM, because I did not get any allocaiton from the IPO. It went up so much in the first day offer no chance for us to invest anymore. I did not want to bother SENDAI and OLDTOWN, because I'm waiting for the coming 2 IPO, one of them is Bumi Armada (ARMADA).

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Luck is not being with me since the missing of MPAY, SMARTAG, BOILERM, UOADEV and MSM IPOs. Now it's the turn for OLDTOWN. But guess what.

Oldtown Berhad is pricing its issue/offer price at RM1.25 per share for its initial public offering (IPO) of 96.4 million shares of RM1 each. The company, which owns and operates the Oldtown White Coffee chain, aims to list on Main Market on July 11.

Warren Buffet's Strategy on Technical Analysis

After much research and experience in investing I've discovered a simple strategy which works very well for profitable investing. It's a composite of Charles Schwab's and Warren Buffet's strategy.

As you may know, Warren Buffet started with a little investment decades ago and now he's the third richest man in the world with over $30,000,000,000 in stock in the company he built. Charles Schwab is the genius who began the most successful off-price brokerage in the world. Here's what they say about investing and technical analysis:

Rule #1: Buy a company you'd be willing to hold for a lifetime

A Gem under the Drain?

Are you still hunting a gem under the drain?

Recently, I noticed one of the 50 cents penny stock with the following information:
1) PER 3.75
2) NTA 0.57
3) D/Y 3.5%
4) ROE 23.4
5) EPS 0.133
6) Consistent profit and never make a quarter loss in the past 5 years

How does it sounds? Does it sounds like a gem? Will you buy if it is too good to be true?

It's Time To Do 1st Quarter Review

My apology for not updating this blog for more than 2 weeks. My new job is really consuming a lot of my time and effort. It impacts a lot of my time put on stock market. Nonetheless, I hope my new job would not affect my great passion with the local stock market.

Anyway, most of the companies are releasing latest quarter results by these few days. I always believe hard work will brings reward. No doubt, I have to spend my free time, which is during the midnight to go through the companies financial reports which I'm interested.

Asia Media Group Bhd

What is wrong with AMEDIA these few days? It's share price dropping from the highest point of 32.5 cents since last week till 22.5 cents today, more than 30% within 2 weeks.

By looking at the active and weird volumes for the past 2 weeks, it seems like someone is manipulating the price of AMEDIA.

MClean Technologies Bhd

MClean Technologies Bhd expects its business to grow by double digits this year as rising global demand for computers would boost the hard disk drive (HDD) industry.

Chief executive officer Bert Chow said based on market research, the HDD industry grows by about 10 to 20 per cent every year. "We expect our business to grow in tandem with the high demand in hard disk drive," he said after the launch of its prospectus here yesterday.

Boilermech Holdings Bhd

I've totally no luck recently, as I did not hit any IPO share from SMARTAG and FLBHD.

That's very okay, if compared to a lucky fellow from my hometown who won close to RM48 millions from Sports TOTO Supreme on last weekend. I used to invest some TOTO Supreme from there. Too bad.

No Time For Stock Market?

The index is falling for the past 1 week, especially Sarawak's listed companies. Can it be due to Sarawak's election that many investors take profit and watch the show? We'll see the outcome very soon later.

Anyway, I've just got a new job and started to work on past Monday. The new scope of works are a little bit tough and I'm having hard time to pick up. I'm having hard time to look at the stock market and companies news even at night time, as I've to buck up on my job.

Sarawak Election Theme Play?

Sarawak state assembly has been dissolved end of last month and now we are waiting the 10th state elections war to begin very soon. Nonetheless, except timber stock, most of the Sarawak stocks share prices have been corrected on last month this month. Why is this?

Japan Reconstruction Theme

People used to say, a crisis will always brings opportunity.

This is very true, especially in stock market. Many investors do think that certain stocks would benefit from the reconstruction of the buildings damaged in Japan's earth quake more than 2 weeks ago.

Since Malaysia is rich with natural resources, what can our local company can contribute for the buildings reconstruction?

Is Rubber Glove Stocks Reviving?

On last week, Japan crippling earthquake has led KLSE index to go down and test 1470 level for the 3rd time. And how the index is back to 1510 level. We just watched a drama by looking at the index goes up and down for the past 2 weeks.

Anyway, most of the big falls have come back by these few days. I hope you've get your money back by now? By looking at my portfolio, overall the small-cap prices have came back and blue chips remain stagnant. It's boring, isn't it?

Why is the Yen Strong Amid Crisis?

A spiraling crisis caused by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear drama has turned into a financial crisis for the world’s third largest economy.

In a few short hours, the yen smashed through the 80 yen-to-the-dollar barrier, peaking at 76.25 yen. That was the highest level the currency has hit since World War II.

The health of Japan’s economy is based heavily on exports. A stronger yen can wipe billions of dollars off corporate balance sheets. For example, Toyota loses 30 billion yen, roughly $380 million, for each uptick of the yen against the dollar.

What A Bad Luck Day!

We are feeling upset over the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Besides fatality, this natural disaster has slashed Japanese a huge sum of money. We may want to pray for them and help them.

Today, it seems that I'm no longer better than what I am. I hit food poison since last Sunday morning and I'm having diarrhea over the past few days. I'm hydrated and I've yet to recover completely until now.

One Shot For Good?

Have you ever seen retail investor hit a warrant with his 1 month salary and then he does not has to work for almost 3 years?

May be it is possible, if you managed to get SUMATEC-WA. It has closed it's price with upside of 3400% today.

Let's assumed that you have been distributed with 500,000 units (500 lots) of SUMATEC-WA at 0.5 cent earlier. And you sold the 500 lots at 17.5 cents today, with the total sum of RM87,500. You earned a total sum of RM85,000. If your monthly salary is RM2,500, it provides you 34 months salary in just one day.

Are You Monitor Too Frequently?

I've neglected to look at the stock market on the last entire week, as I've been busy for my cousin's wedding. I felt like a little bit strange when I came back and looked at the market and those counters in my watch list just now.

On the other hand, I felt totally relax for the past entire week by not looking at the stock market. I cannot deny that sometimes stock market did affect my emotion and give me some pressures, if I'm too close to it. It makes me tired and lost concentration to do other things.

COPY: Unleashing Talent Is Job For Chief Executives

While the government strives to create an ecosystem that is conducive to talent growth and ease of doing business, it is up to the CEOs of Malaysia to unleash the talent they have, said Datuk Seri Idris Jala, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and CEO of Pemandu (Performance Management Delivery Unit), yesterday.

“Talent is a crucial issue for Pemandu, but the truth is the responsibility for unleashing talent rests squarely on the shoulders of the CEO,” said Idris.  He was speaking at a dialogue with CEOs organised by PwC Malaysia titled “What future are you preparing for”. The dialogue’s other panellist was Stuart Dean, president of GE Asean.

Masterskill, Pchem and Uchitec Discussion

Most of the Asia Indexes shot up today and KLCI is still facing a little bit of selling pressure, with -0.6 point as an ending this week. Overall, the gainers are more than the losers. As a result, we couldn't see cheap sale in the market like yesterday afternoon.

I did queue to buy 2 target stocks discussed on my previous post this morning, but they did not hit my target price. Did you trade any stock today? I'm thinking whether there will be any cheap sale on next week? Instead of wasting our time to predict the market, let's review on some of the companies' latest result.

KLCI Skids, Oil Price Spike Worries?

OMG, KLCI skids another 21 points right after 2nd half of the trading today, with the crude oil price spiking above US$100 because of Libya issue.

The dramatic spike of oil price has indirectly impact most of the company earnings and direct impact aviation, transportation and power industry. It is no surprise that we can see the share price of AIRASIA and MAS vomited 10% this week.

My Portfolio Quarter Reports Review And Action

Those company quarter reports I concerned will be out by these few days. Some of them have been released on last week and today, they are MUDAJYA, MBMR, NOTION. MEGB's quarter report is tentatively to be announced by coming Wednesday.

In overall, MUDAJYA did quite well this quarter, but it's share price was weak today. I'm expecting it's share price will gradually grow up with the upcoming solid earnings and projects to be awarded. I will continue to keep it for a higher return.

Green Packet Bhd Extends It's Loss

Green Packet Bhd, a wireless networking and telecommunication products provider, has deferred its target of breaking even at the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) level to the end of this year as opposed to the first quarter of 2011, said its CEO Puan Chan Cheong.

The deferment was due to the more competitive environment and lower price point in the nomadic (portable) broadband segment that its subsidiary Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (P1) planned to grow going forward, he said during a media briefing yesterday.

What Do We Have After CNY?

Market is unpredictable?

Overall, the Asian market is in green today except KLSE. It opened at 10 points lower. Nonetheless, it managed to turn green before the end of the day.

Many people said that KLSE is experiencing a short-term correction (fund manager taking profit?) and there are some uncertainties that might cause the index to dip further. To me, it is still in a perfect bull trend in overall. Of course, the market is very hard to predict.

Homeritz Corporation Berhad Part II

After having a long break, perhaps it's time for us to get back to work and do our homework for stock market. So what have inspired you during this Chinese New Year (CNY)?

To me, nothing special during this CNY. But I did notice 2 matters about HOMERIZ, they are the release of annual report 2010 and latest quarter report. I believe you have read my first cover on HOMERIZ in my previous post.

Happy Chinese New Year

Today, we come to the last day of Tiger year, and tomorrow we will be step into Rabbit year.

Saturday, January 29, 2011

Homeritz Corporation Berhad

If you refer to my previous blog, I mentioned to you that I would like to invest into a low volatility and penny stock. And I will share with you after I bought it. Well, I managed to buy in the 1st stage on past Monday. Yes, it is HOMERIZ. You may know or hear about this counter before.

COPY: Will Interest In IPOs Spill Over To Century Software?

After a prolific year for initial public offerings (IPO) in 2010, the new year has gotten off to an eventful start with five IPOs so far in January, namedly Maxwell International Holdings Bhd, Asia Media Group Bhd, Benalec Holdings Bhd, K Seng Seng Corp Bhd and Tambun Indah Land Bhd.

Of the five IPOs, Benalec and K Seng Seng have fared well thus far, with premiums of 39% and 8.8%, respectively, over their offer prices. It has not been bad for the other three either, as all are still trading above their offer prices, albeit at low single-digit premiums.

COPY: KLCI Extended Losses For 4th Day

The FBM KLCI extended its losses for the 4th trading yesterday as a combination of some mild profit taking as well as the impending long holidays next week kept investors on the sidelines and weighed on the index.

Statistics

The 30-stock benchmark index slipped 0.29% or 4.46 points to 1,542.97, dragged by losses including index-linked plantation stocks as well as select blue chips. Losers outpaced gainers by 548 to 258, while 282 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 1.83 billion shares valued at RM2.21 billion.

Why No Discount On My Target Counter?

KLCI index in red again for the 3rd consecutive day. According to the news, the local market went down 19 points today due to the concerns about more monetary tightening policies by China's government. It seems like not a new issue to us.

The big drop of the market supposed to be an opportunity for us to buy some. I did notice some big-cap counters having few percents correction, like CIMB and PCHEM. That's okay. However, when I look at my interested counter price, they didn't drop, at all. What a disappointment!

Looking For Replacement of MEGB

The KLCI volumes are dropping and some retail speculators started to take profit for the past few trading days. Many speculators out there expecting there will be some minor retracement, so they do what is necessary.

It's boring on these couple of days, because we don't see anything excited. Well, the only colors display were from the new IPOs debut. Will the index drops further before Chinese New Year? No one will know. Instead of wasting time to predict it, it's better for us to spend some time to relax.

What Faith for Masterskill?

I'm so sad and sorry, but this is just out of our control. MEGB (Masterskill) share price has been falling sharply for 3 consecutive days from RM2.50, 14% write off so far. Today is the worst day where it closed at RM2.15. With today closing price, MEGB PER is coming back again to 6.

There is no change on MEGB fundamental and PTPTN resolution is found. In addition, the group also just obtained additional premises of Kota Bharu campus approval from MHEM. Why MEGB share price not goes up but slips?

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Notion Vtec Berhad

The index is resting after bullish for 5 consecutive days in year 2011. Most of the stocks, small-cap or blue chips went up like no tomorrow during the past trading days. Many Chinese investors are thinking about having a fat Chinese New Year, on top of their bonuses and monthly wages.

My New Year Stock Portfolio Review

Happy new year to you. What a wonderful vacation I've in Taipei last week. I spent quite some money in investing in self-improvement books and CNY clothes. I hope they will bring me some returns in the near future.

KLSE index has shot up to 47 point within 3 consecutive days with heavy volumes right after Tiger year. Some analysts said it's caused by foreign investment. May be, as yesterday and today volume has surpassed any trading day in year 2010. The market outlook looks bright.

Is MEGB Still Worth To Invest?

Education companies are generally known for their defensive qualities, with earnings that are relatively recession-proof due to rising demand for education, the importance society places on quality education, and the increasingly prohibitive cost of obtaining overseas degrees. The expense of a foreign education favours companies providing “twinning” degrees or local alternatives, and allows room for fee hikes.
