8.75% Dividend & Bonus for ASB

Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) has announced Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) dividend today. Without much surprise, ASB unitholders will receive a dividend of 7.50 cents per unit this year compared with 7.30 cents declared last year. One unit is price at RM1.00.

As usual, ASB unitholders will also receive a bonus of 1.25 sen, similar to last year. Thus, the total dividend and bonus to be received is 8.75%, which is 0.2% better than last year.

According to PNB chairman, the income distribution portion involved a total payout of RM5.93 billion while the bonus portion RM603.34 million. The dividend income from the share holding companies contributed RM3.27 billions or 50% of the gross income, and profit from the sale of shares contributed RM2.78 billions or 42%. The remaining RM0.53 billion or 8% was derived from investment in short-term instruments and other investments.

According to statistics, last year's dividend was less than 50%. This year, the dividend contributions have increased this year to support PNB earnings, thanks to higher dividend distributors such as Maybank. On the other hand, PNB can do a lot better in this, if SIME is not the culprit.

Below is the summary of ASB dividend history, which I copied it from 1-million-dollar-blog.com.

By the way, I'm not able to buy any of ASB, as I'm not a Bumiputera. I believe many of you are facing the same thing. But it's okay, it's not a big deal anyway. We can always gain a lot more returns from stock market in long run.
